Business Analysts and Consultants, they do what now?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Marcus @ 11:30 am

Business Analyst: Takes the requirements from the business stakeholders / clients in a project. These are the requirements that they’re pretty sure they want their own terms. Needs to understand business talk and map it to basic real-world terms.

Consultant: Takes the requirements and figure out how long it will take to build them. If there’s a fixed timeline, to then come back to the analyst and stakeholders with what can actually be built.  Needs to take business / real-world terms and map it to technical functionality.

I tend to find though that the message the consultant sends back about “No, this will take too long, here’s an alternative with 70% of the functionality but can be delivered in 50% of the time” gets lost along the way back.
